Blue Mountain Baptist Church (BMTBC) is located in the beautiful historic town of Baker City, Oregon. We are a close-knit community of approximately 10,000 people nestled in the Baker Valley and surrounded by the Wallowa, Elkhorn, and Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon. Our City, though lovely and welcoming, is largely un-churched with only 11% of its residents identifying as Evangelical Protestants according to the most recent surveys back in 2010. There are only a few Bible-believing churches in town, and many would consider Baker City to be a mission field. BMTBC has a growing attendance of about 110 people, including our sixty or so members. We, as a body, fervently believe that our mission as disciples of Christ is described by Jesus Himself in Matthew 28 where he commands “go.. and make disciples of all nations...”
Therefore, our statement of purpose is simple: Be Disciples of Jesus. Make disciples of Jesus.
To this end, we believe that our duty to others does not cease after salvation but continues in ongoing relationships as detailed in Hebrews 10, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together... encouraging one another...” Additionally, Paul exhorts believers in the letter to the Colossians, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom...” In obedience to these and other passages we have a vital ministry of small groups that meet throughout the week in the homes of members to pray, encourage, and minister to one another. Our congregation also has a large children's ministry as well as other very active, established ministries with strong leadership.
We believe that God will bring us exactly the right leader we need to help our church continue to grow and disciple those believers that are right now praying for His guidance in this matter. We trust in the words of Christ in Matthew 7:7 where he declares, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
