Lead Pastor

Salary: $55,000 - $70,000 plus up to $10,000 relocation expenses

Blue Mountain Baptist Church in beautiful Baker City, OR is looking for their next lead Pastor. Our church is praying that God will bring us the right replacement for our church as our current pastor is leaving at the end of the year. We are seeking a man of God with the qualifications of a leader as laid out by the word of God


The lead pastor will model the purpose and mission of Blue Mountain Baptist Church: “To be disciples of Jesus and make disciples of Jesus”. The lead pastor will be an advocate and communicator for the vision of the church and for the glory of God. This person will be the primary leader, teacher, and visionary of our church.  He will have a broad responsibility for the spiritual welfare, growth, and life of the church in all areas including discipleship, evangelism, and equipping the congregation for service. The lead pastor is to embody the essence of a shepherd and servant leader.

Lead Pastor Profile

In addition the lead pastor will:

  • Have a vital walk with Jesus Christ evidenced by his faithfulness, passion, and grace

  • Have a gift and a passion for teaching and preaching the eternal, inerrant, and unalterable Word of God as revealed in the Old and New Testaments

  • Practice personal one-on-one evangelism and discipleship, and be committed to equip others to do the same

  • Be committed to small groups as a key strategy for church growth and discipleship

  • Be an authentic communicator, easy to understand and down to earth

  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to share with others in a large group setting and one–on-one from his heart and life

  • Be humble enough to accept input for those he is leading

  • Be transparent in church matters

  • Have a minimum of 5 years of pastoral/teaching experience in a church

  • Be actively seeking to lead his family into a relationship with Christ


Lead Pastor Job description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of the lead pastor will be carried out in the context of the church staff, elders, deacons, and ministry leaders. Our intent is that the lead pastor will provide leadership and oversight, and delegate responsibilities as appropriate. These essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: ministry of the word, prayer, leadership, evangelism and discipleship, shepherding and teaching, and pastoral care. The lead pastor will work in conjunction with the elders, deacons, church staff, and ministry leaders in the implementation of the mission and vision of the church. 


Ministry of the Word

The lead pastor will be the primary teacher and preacher for the church, and will exposit God’s word faithfully, according to sound doctrine. The lead pastor should be committed to teaching the holy Scriptures in a manner that is relevant, authentic, and personally applicable.  

The lead pastor will:

  1. Teach on the majority of Sundays within the calendar year

  2. Communicate with the elders, deacons, staff, and volunteers in order to coordinate their respective responsibilities

  3. Supervise the administration of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

  4. Be a clear and articulate speaker


Prayer

The lead Pastor will spend time praying daily for the ministries of the church and discipling others in the church in the area of prayer.


Leadership

The lead pastor will plan and lead the order of worship for the central gathering in collaboration with the church staff and volunteers. The lead pastor will cultivate and demonstrate a heart for proclaiming the Gospel in Baker City, the surrounding region, and the world.


The lead pastor will lead and hold accountable all church staff, elders, deacons, ministry team leaders, and volunteers, while being a member of the elder team. 


The lead Pastor will:

  1. Conduct meetings with the church staff and volunteers, and work to assist staff and volunteers in achieving their ministry objectives

  2. Nurture the spiritual health of church staff and volunteers of Blue Mountain Baptist Church

  3. Work with church staff to provide optimal functioning of administrative duties, to produce and maintain the annual church budget, and to ensure that all legal requirements for the church are met

  4. Work with church staff to establish measurable objectives in keeping with the purpose and mission of the church


Evangelism and Discipleship

The lead pastor will demonstrate a lifestyle of personal evangelism and discipleship, and oversee its application in congregational life. The lead pastor will:

  1. Support and evaluate existing outreach ministries, and encourage the development of new outreach ministries

  2. Encourage and motivate the congregation to bring guests to the central gathering and small groups

  3. Develop and provide oversight for a new membership class

  4. Encourage and equip the church for their own personal ministry of evangelism and discipleship


Pastoral Care

The lead Pastor will be involved in the pastoral care of church members and attendees. The lead pastor will:

  1. Seek to develop and oversee a pastoral care ministry within Blue Mountain Baptist Church

  2. Cultivate an atmosphere of availability between church members and attendees with staff, elders, deacons, and ministry team leaders


Educational and Theological Requirements

The lead pastor should possess a graduate level education from an accredited conservative seminary. The lead pastor must be committed to an orthodox understanding of the Christian faith and adhere to our statement of faith as published on our website. The lead pastor should preach expositionally. Finally, the lead pastor must love Jesus faithfully and passionately, and lead others to do the same.
