Blue Mountain Baptist Church is in beautiful Eastern Oregon in the historic town of Baker City, a close-knit community of around 10,000 people nestled in the Baker Valley and surrounded by the Elkhorn and Wallowa Mountains. Our city, though lovely and welcoming, is largely unchurched with only 11 percent of its residents identifying as evangelical Christians according to the most recent survey in 2010. There are only a few Bible-believing churches in town, and many would consider Baker City to be a mission field.
Our church has a growing attendance of approximately 125 people, including our sixty or so members; a vital ministry of small groups that meet throughout the week in the homes of members to pray, encourage, and minister to one another; a growing children's ministry; and other very active, established ministries with strong leadership. We own our current facility, have no financial debt, and have a unified congregation.
Our community is safe, clean, and friendly. We are located among the best and least crowded wilderness areas in the United States, yet the cost of living is low compared to other mountain towns in the West. Our local ski hill (Anthony Lakes) is forty-five minutes away, and our closest metropolitan area (Boise, Idaho) is two hours away.
We fervently believe that our mission as followers of Christ is described by Jesus himself in Matthew 28 where he commands us to “go…and make disciples of all nations.” Therefore, our mission statement is simple: Be disciples of Jesus. Make disciples of Jesus.
We are seeking a man with the qualifications of a pastor as laid out by the Word of God (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).
Preferred qualifications for this position are at least two years of experience in a ministry leadership capacity and a bachelor's degree in biblical studies or a related field.
